Shatter-proof greenhouse glass is made of clear polycarbonate – a plastic material with extreme impact strength. Polycarbonate is up to 250 times stronger than ordinary glass and practically cannot break, even under hard impact. At the same time, the material is fully transparent (86–90% light transmission) and lets optimal light through to the plants. This type of shatter-proof plastic sheet can be ordered to measure according to your specific greenhouse dimensions – no need to adapt standard sizes. The recommended variant for outdoor use. The UV coating prevents yellowing and strength loss over time and typically comes with a 10-year guarantee against yellowing. This should always be the variant you choose for greenhouses.

How do you choose shatter-proof greenhouse glass?
Consider the following:
Measurements and shape:
- Take exact measurements of your openings (measure height, width and diagonally to ensure a square shape)
- Have the sheets adapted before delivery for easy installation
Thickness:
- 4 mm: standard replacement for greenhouse panes – a good balance between strength and light transmission
- 6 mm: extra impact strength and insulation – recommended in exposed areas
- 8–10 mm: maximum strength – for large panes or wind-exposed positions
Type:
- Ordinary greenhouse: solid clear polycarbonate 4 mm
- Wind-exposed position: 6 mm
- All-year greenhouse: 6 mm or thicker solid sheets for better heat retention
Installation:
- Plan whether you want to cut to size yourself or have them adapted before delivery (recommended)
- Check whether your greenhouse has existing profiles that can be reused
How to install shatter-proof greenhouse glass
Installation:
- Fix the sheets in the greenhouse frame with the recommended profiles and screws with sealing washers
- Ensure correct overlap and seals at all joints
- Always pre-drill holes at least 3 mm larger than the screw to allow for expansion
- Do not over-tighten – the sheet needs to be able to move
- The UV-coated side should face outwards (marked with film from the factory)
Expansion:
- Polycarbonate expands around 3 mm per metre with a 50°C temperature change
- Make sure to allow an expansion gap in all directions
Pitch:
- Roof sheets should have a minimum 5° pitch for good water run-off
- Check that the existing greenhouse frame has the correct pitch
